Theater Management

MANAGEMENT STAFF

RON FAIBUSCH   (President and Treasurer)  Ron, a friend of Howie's for over twenty years, worked with Howie at the Park Road Playhouse for several years and served as their Treasurer.  In 2012, Ron and Howie had a vision to open a theater in Collinsville and with the support of the Town leaders, that vision became a reality.  Ron with many years of business management, financial administration, and information technology experience, has the responsibility for the day to day administrative duties and BUSINESS matters while Howie is responsibility for putting on the SHOW.  Together, each working in their individual areas of expertise, the result is SHOW BUSINESS.

DOREEN COHN (Secretary and Executive Director) Doreen Cohn has been involved in theater in Connecticut both onstage and behind the scenes for well over 30 years.

Doreen's theater involvement began on stage where she performed with many theater groups including the Theatre Guild of Simsbury, Avon Music Makers, Pleasant Valley Players, Canton Benefit Productions, and the Centennial Theater Festival.  Favorite roles include Carrie Pipperidge (Carousel), Shirley (Company), Minnie Fay (Hello Dolly), and Tzeitel (Fiddler on the Roof).

Her theater "bug" soon switched from onstage to behind the scenes, moving from set design to directing and teaching.

Recently retired from the Avon Public Schools, Doreen was instrumental in developing a Creative Drama/Enrichment Curriculum (Grades K-6), which integrated the arts and creative thinking skills into the curriculum, as well as Arts in Action, an arts integrated summer program, and is currently Coordinator for Avon's Summer Theater Programs.  In addition to her work in Avon she was head of the theater department at The Ethel Walker School in Simsbury for over 17 years, and was involved in the development of the musical theater program at Canton High School where she directed for 15 years.  She has taught theater and directed productions for numerous school systems, organizations, and community theater groups, (kindergarten to adult), including the Theatre Guild of Simsbury, Canton Benefit Productions,  New Britain Repertory Company, The Ethel Walker School,
Simsbury Summer Theater, the New Britain Museum of Modern Art, Avon Community Theater, Farmington Public Schools, CIGNA Theater, Bloomfield Youth Theater, as well as for Simsbury, Avon, and Canton High Schools.

Doreen is excited to be joining Ron Faibusch and Ken Jones, bringing her expertise to the Farmington Valley Stage Company.

KEN JONES (VP and Director of Theater Operations) Ken Jones has directed and taught theater craft in the Farmington Valley area since 2003, staging over 75 successful productions.

Ken was influenced early in the performing arts and education by his mother, who was a singer/dancer in USO camp shows, then a social studies/history teacher who wrote plays for her students to learn about other cultures and eras. Ken's production experience began in school as a keyboardist, vocalist, student composer/music director, and artistic director. In college he worked as a recording engineer while earning his BA in Music.

Growing up in a 250-year-old home, Ken started developing his engineering and fabrication skills early on. His deep fascination for "the way things work" has driven his craft, creating "magic" from the simplest of objects to complex systems. By day, he helps provide information technology solutions and services for area businesses, organizations, and municipalities.

Ken has designed and managed productions for a number of local theater groups, including Canton High School, Canton Middle School, Avon High School, Avon Summer Theatre, FAVARH, Loomis Chaffee NEO Theatre, and Theatre Guild of Simsbury. He lives by the credo, "Enthusiastically share what you know, and eagerly learn what you don't." This has served him (and his crews) well, and he is grateful to all those who have willingly shared their knowledge, creativity, and unique perspectives. Ken lives in Canton with his unwaveringly supportive and understanding wife, Jane.

Ken is delighted to team up with Ron Faibusch and Doreen Cohn, bringing his broad knowledge and crafting skills to the Farmington Valley Stage Company.

HOWARD HIRSCH   (Honarary Artistic Director)In college, Howie scheduled most of his classes early in the day so that he could run down to Greenwich Village to work in various theaters including David Roth’s 4th St. Theatre, The Cherry Lane, and Circle in the Square under  Jose Quintero.  He also studied with Uta Hagen and Mike Nichols.  Primarily acting in those days, he soon came to realize his real passion was to direct. And that’s what he’s done for more than fifty award-winning years on both stage and film.  Offstage, he and his wife Lin are responsible (so far) for three daughters, six granddaughters, two great grandsons and a great granddaughter! Howie passed away on September 11, 2014.
